Recap: Spring Break and Beyond
It is a quiet week at the Blue Ridge Center, as UVA students are home for spring break. As we take a moment to catch our breath and prepare for the spring’s final sprint to June, we’re looking back over the semester at Blue Ridge so far and dreaming about the exciting opportunities we have for UVA students through the rest of this semester. Let’s take a moment to recap by the numbers:
7 - this is how many public speaking events we’ve had since the end of January, even with multiple cancellations and postponements due to weather. The topics have ranged from affirmative action to the intersection of religion and science; from Winston Churchill to sports betting.
11 - the number of reading groups hosted at the Blue Ridge Center this semester. Reading groups meet weekly for six weeks in the Blue Ridge offices. This spring, we have groups reading works on the Civil War, Natural Law, Jane Austen, Atlas Shrugged, and Private Equity, among others.
42 - how many UVA students came out for our evening debate on sports betting - one of today’s hot topics in politics and a burgeoning industry.
13 - public speaking events left on the calendar before we reach the end of the semester. After spring break, students will have the opportunity to hear from experts on topics ranging from tariffs, to civil procedure law, to the intersection of philosophy and economics.
We are looking forward to welcoming our students back to grounds next week, and we hope that the rest of the semester will offer ample opportunities to get involved with our work at Blue Ridge.
